Fun Facts
  • Cuban oregano is not actually oregano. It's more closely related to mint.
  • It has thick, succulent leaves that are aromatic and used in culinary dishes.
  • It is often used in Caribbean and Asian cuisines.
Growth Conditions
  • Soil:  Well-draining, sandy soil is ideal.  A succulent or cactus mix works well.
  • Preferred Climate: Thrives in temperatures between 6075°F (1624°C).  Avoid temperatures below 50°F (10°C).
  • Light:  Prefer bright, indirect light, but can tolerate some direct sunlight.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil is dry. Reduce watering in the winter.
  • Propagation:  Easily propagated from stem cuttings.  Cut a healthy stem, remove the lower leaves, let it dry for a day, then plant it in moist soil.  Keep the soil lightly moist until roots develop.

Cuban oregano is sensitive to frost.
If you live in a region that experiences frost, bring the plant indoors before the first frost, or cover it with frost cloth.
Ensure the plant is not exposed to cold drafts if kept indoors.
